News from Car Free Day Long Island!
Thank you for pledging to be car free or car-lite on the 5th Annual Car Free Day Long Island on September 22, 2017. So far over 4,000 Long Islanders have pledged to be car free or car-lite on Car Free Day!

You're now part of the international Car Free Day event that's celebrated in over 2,400 cities in 51 countries around the world! Car Free Day will be celebrated in different ways with the common goal of taking cars off the road. Using cars less by taking advantage of alternative transportation modes will build awareness, reduce traffic, conserve energy, improve our air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce parking problems and save money!

Car Free Day LI Bragging Rights Contest

Here are the latest standings in our annual “Bragging Rights” contest for the college, company and municipality with the most pledges. Northwell Health continues to be our overall leader with 805 pledges, while Stony Brook University continues to have the lead in hotly contested University/College category with 704 pledges.  Town of Huntington has a strong lead in the municipality category.

Car Free Day LI Raffle Prizes

Now that you've pledged, you're also eligible to  win great prizes. Car Free Day LI Rally!

Join us in celebrating Car Free Day LI at a number of events being planned that week.  Details on additional events coming soon!

September 20 – Car Free Day LI Rally, 11–1pm
Farmingdale State College will once again be hosting our island-wide Car Free Day LI Rally on campus outside the Campus Center. Join us as we stir up excitement for this year’s Car Free Day!

September 22 – Suffolk County Car Free Day Rally at Stony Brook University, 11-1pm
Suffolk County and Stony Brook University will be teaming up to hold a rally on campus at the  Student Activity Center Plaza and a discussion on potential benefits of a Suffolk County regional bike share program.

September 22 – Car Free Day LI Wyandanch Plaza Celebration, 5–7pm
On your way home on Car Free Day, stop by for some music and refreshments at Wyandanch Plaza at the Wyandanch Village transit oriented development, steps from the Wyandanch LIRR station and Parking Facility, and Suffolk County Transit bus stop.

Car Free Day LI Municipal Challenge

Once again, we are challenging Long Island’s counties, towns, cities and villages to encourage their residents and employees to pledge to be car free or car-lite on Car Free Day. Municipalities who participate in Car Free Day LI will be recognized with bronze, silver and gold Car Free Day LI Challenge awards depending on their level of involvement. So far Suffolk County, Town of Huntington, Town of Babylon and the Village of Great Neck Plaza have been making plans to celebrate Car Free Day.   Awards will be presented at the Car Free Day LI Rally at Farmingdale State College.
