FIGHTING FOR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY



Asserting our values

This month, the United States has seen an increase in social action to protest the deconstruction of the gains made in social and environmental responsibility. Students from High Schools, Colleges, and Universities are significantly contributing to these activities throughout the nation.  The Graduation Pledge Alliance supports the peaceful actions by schools and students engaged in The Women's March, The Dakota Pipeline protest, and the recent immigration/travel bans protests.

Recent Activities have included:

  *   Busloads of students attending the Women's March in Washington DC.
  *   Law students providing legal support to Muslim travelers arriving in the United States.
  *   Students organizing Social and Environmental Fairs, where all the local groups are brought together to share information with other students and the public.
  *   Students using social media campaigns, Letters to the Editors, and local news shows to express their concerns about the effects of the Federal actions on their local communities.
  *   Students promoting campaigns to divest from fossil fuel companies.
Consider beginning your Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental campaign early to cement solidarity on social and environmental issues.

Engage with national initiatives. Consider connecting with 350.org (https://350.org/<http://graduationpledge.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=c3d7b48a541029428d50bc386&id=443b144fa2&e=cfb7bca452>) or The Sierra Club (http://www.sierraclub.org/<http://graduationpledge.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c3d7b48a541029428d50bc386&id=2c1494afa6&e=cfb7bca452>), or attending the IMPACT Conference, (February 16-19, 2017), one of the largest student activism conferences in the US ( http://www.impactconference.org/<http://graduationpledge.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=c3d7b48a541029428d50bc386&id=8a89ec4bfa&e=cfb7bca452>).
