I have received the email below and the attached from Hildi Hendrickson in my role as faculty council chairperson (through the end of this month…).

It appears that the university is moving forward with academic program review effective immediately, with the programs on the pilot unit document as the initial programs for this process.  The spring calendar for those pilot programs is attached.  The draft APR proposal is also attached, as is the generic template for academic program review.

It appears that all of these documents currently indicate they are draft documents.

I have just received this information yesterday.  I had not received any emails from the administration about APR, though others may have.  At Thursday’s Campus Leadership Council meeting, APR came up, and it appears that in the new middle states standards, APR is a requirement (I have not seen the new middle states documents at this point, so I’m only providing information I’ve heard).

My understanding is that the proposed timeframe for review is 3 years, such that all departments would be doing APR every three years.  Programs that are accredited will be asked to provide a truncated report that addresses all information in the university requirements that is not reported to the accrediting body in the self-study process.

This is all I know.  If you have questions, please contact your various faculty council representatives for your specific areas, who will collate questions and concerns and forward them onto the Faculty Council chairperson (John Lutz) and secretary (Kathleen Feeley) for the next faculty council meeting.

Hi all,
Following up on a meeting with him last spring that got cancelled, the UFS asked Jeff Kane to come to our monthly meeting today to bring us up-to-date on Academic Program Review.  He brought a newly revised version of the documents that he had circulated to some of us in the last week. They are attached for faculty review and distribution as you see fit.

It appears the objections from many parties in Brooklyn were heard. The main change in the docs is that the first group of programs to be reviewed has been modified.  The list now includes one program from each of the schools at Brooklyn: Accounting, Biology, Computer Science, Dance, Media Arts and Social Work. The following programs in Conolly have been removed from the list: Economics, History, Soc-Anthro, Speech. These four programs will not be asked to undergo the process during the compressed timeframe of Spring 2017 and are not listed to be reviewed in 2017-18.

I have hard copies of these docs for people in Brooklyn who might want them; Selenay has them for people at Post.

Thanks to all who protested at various points and in various ways. BTW — It appears that it was ultimately Gale who made the decision to change the list.  Jeff says she is the one we should speak to about APR at Brooklyn. This is problematic, I know.
Anyway, I wanted everyone to hear the news as soon as possible.
