Dear Scott,

when I drove onto campus today, I was horrified to discover the magnificent holly trees next to Roth Hall being ripped out. These were mature trees possibly 50 years old full of red berries that sustain birds and beautify the campus. They were always beautifully pruned and gave everyone who works in that building great pleasure. The sight absolutely brought me to tears.

How can we possibly profess to be involved in sustainability on campus if we can't even protect the trees that live here and the birds that nest in them and feed on the berries.

What kind of holiday party can we possibly have in light of the destruction of the very trees that celebrate and symbolize the season. I am deeply ashamed of an administration that shows neither respect for nature nor for beauty.

Others have shared in grief and mourning all day long as they passed by the building and found the trees murdered.

As far as I'm concerned, every party related to this holiday season should be cancelled.

Joan

Hi,

I heard that several people wanted to attend our Dec 2nd NYC event; unfortunately, the event has to be rescheduled for 2017. We are not having the Dec 2 holiday party.
When I get additional information, I will circulate that to you all. Thanks. Prof. Scott Carlin
