HEAD TODDLER TEACHER (Child and Family Center, Rockefeller University

Job description

This is an exciting time of expansion for The Rockefeller University's Child and Family Center (CFC). Centrally located on our beautiful 14-acre campus, the CFC offers childcare and education to families affiliated with the University. In order to meet the demand of the University's recent expansion and lessen the waiting period for admittance, the CFC is in an intensive phase of adding new facilities and hiring teachers. We will be opening a new classroom in September 2015 and four additional rooms by September 2016.


Joining the CFC is a wonderful way for teachers at any point in their careers to obtain valuable experience, professional development opportunities, to learn from our experienced team of Teachers, and utilize the vast resources at the CFC and on campus.


In cooperation with other team members, the Head Teacher will establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for children, teachers, and parents. Responsibilities include:

  *   Establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for children, teachers and parents
  *   Setting an organizational and emotional tone for the room that is responsive to children, parents, and teachers
  *   Assessing the educational and developmental needs of each child
  *   Planning and implementing a curriculum that will enhance the development of the children in all areas (cognitive, physical, social, emotional)
  *   Promoting positive and productive relationships with parents, between parents and between parents and other staff


Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in progress required; educational emphasis in early childhood education and/or childhood development preferred. Must have an understanding of child and adult development, strong verbal and written communication skills, interest in and knowledge of early childhood education curriculum, ability to work collaboratively with a team, good organizational and management skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
