Dear Students,

Please be advised that applications for the John D. Solomon Fellowship for Public Service are currently being accepted. See the attached for more details and circulate among the students at your institution.

 The John D. Solomon Fellowship for Public Service is the first student fellowship with the City devoted specifically to emergency management. Sponsored by NYC Emergency Management, the program was established by the family and friends of the late John D. Solomon, an accomplished journalist on homeland security, devoted public servant, and passionate advocate of emergency preparedness and resilience.

The program provides an opportunity for ten graduate students in the New York City area to complete a nine-month paid fellowship (15- 20 hours per week) at a New York City government agency or non-profit organization focusing on emergency management. Each fellow will receive a $4,000 stipend (divided installments of $2,000 each at the end of the fall and spring terms), will be assigned an agency mentor, and will participate in special programs with other fellows. Fellows will also be given access to, and encouraged to complete, the New York City Emergency Management certificate program. Through their work, fellows gain invaluable, first-hand experience working with City agencies and non-profits in the critical and growing field of emergency management.

 Possible placements include:

* NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

* NYC Department for the Aging

* NYC Fire Department

* NYC Department of Education

* NYC Police Department

* NYC Office of Emergency Management

* Office of the Mayor

* American Red Cross of Greater New York
