It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Amy Ginsberg, Ph.D. as Dean of LIU Brooklyn's School of Education, effective immediately. As Acting Dean this past year, Amy has demonstrated vision, personal skill and energy in leading the School. She has worked with the faculty on early childhood education initiatives including: a new Bachelor's degree program in Inclusive Early Childhood Education and a 5-year, half a million dollar grant to establish a Bilingual/English as a New Language Professional Development Center for the training of NYC early childhood special education providers.

Amy is a long-standing member of the LIU community since her arrival on the Brooklyn campus in 1997 when she started as an Assistant Professor. She distinguished herself as a faculty member for her gifts as an educator, her insightfulness as a researcher and her commitment to the LIU community. Recognizing her unique capabilities, she was asked to serve in several administrative capacities including as department chair, coordinator of the counseling and school psychology programs and Associate Dean. Amy also oversaw the development of the School's graduate programs in mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy and the re-specialization of programs to enable professionals to attain licensure in a sister field.

Promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2003, she holds a B.A. in Psychology, magna cum laude, Tufts University, and M.A., M.S.ED., and Ph.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her clinical experience is focused on developmental issues of young adulthood, identity development and adjustment to disability.

I am certain that all who know Amy share with me enthusiasm for her appointment as dean and confidence that she will provide extraordinary leadership in building the School for years to come.
