Paid Executive Internship
Interested in a nonprofit organization with a compelling mission? Phoenix House is seeking a driven
individual for the Fall, 2014 to join our Masters level Internship. The incumbent will have the opportunity
to work with our Chief Operating Officer, whose illustrious public and private service career began in a
clinical role and includes several academic posts. MSWs, MPHs, and MPAs will be best suited.

As a valued member of the team, the selected Intern will gain valuable insight into the daily inner
workings of the largest substance abuse treatment and universally recognized organization in the United
States, as well as becoming a part of its growth and transformation. As an intern you will have the
opportunity to interact with senior level staff in both the Phoenix House Foundation and New York
Region, while seeing firsthand the development and implementation of macro/micro decisions. This will
be a truly enriching experience!

The Internship can be for two or three days per week.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:
 Currently enrolled in a Masters’ Degree Program in Social Work, Public Health or Public
Administration is highly preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Assist with the development and implementation of procedures and policies consistent with the
Chief Operating Officer’s objectives
 Insure that activities and operations are in compliance with state and federal regulations
 Participate in the development of short-term and long-term plans and budgets based on the
Foundation’s goals and insure their adequate execution
 Evaluate the results of overall daily operations and report these results to the COO
 Support the COO with directing internal operations to achieve budgeted results

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
 Excellent organizational skills, including administrative abilities
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills
 High level of comfort addressing senior level staff and organizational leaders
 Strong Microsoft Office skills and excellent writing skills
 Ability to analyze and coherently report data while working in a fast-paced environment
