Indian Health Service Student Loan Repayment Opportunity: Call for Applications

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is currently accepting applications for the Indian Health Service Loan Repayment Program (LRP).  The LRP offers health professionals, including physical therapists, the opportunity to pay off qualified student loans to meet the staffing needs of Indian health programs.  The awards are based on the needs of the IHS and the available funding.  There is an estimated $20 Million available for the program during FY 2012 to be awarded to over 450 individuals.

Eligibility criteria include the following:

  *   You are a US citizen.
  *   You are committed to practice at an IHS or other Indian health program<http://app3.vocusgr.com/Url.aspx?336x8704423x-3634005> priority site.
  *   Can begin service on or before September 30 for two continuous years of full-time clinical practice.
  *   You are not currently fulfilling another service obligation, for example, IHS scholarship recipients — you are eligible to apply for the LRP once you have fulfilled any existing service obligations.
  *   Have a degree in a health profession<http://app3.vocusgr.com/Url.aspx?336x8704422x-3634498> or are in postgraduate training or in your final year of a health profession school.
  *   Have a valid state license to practice in a health profession or will be obtaining a license to practice; you can still apply if you have not yet obtained a license.
  *   Currently meet at least one of the following requirements:
     *   Are eligible or hold an appointment as a commissioned officer in the Regular or Reserve Corps of the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps<http://app3.vocusgr.com/Url.aspx?336x8704421x-3634991>.
     *   Meet the professional standards requirements for federal civil service<http://app3.vocusgr.com/Url.aspx?336x8704420x-3635484> employment in the IHS.
     *   Are employed in an Indian health program without a service obligation.
     *   Are still in school but have a job offer from an Indian health program.

Applications will be accepted and evaluated monthly beginning February 17, 2012, and will continue to be accepted each month thereafter until funds are exhausted.
