[Bkn-ipad-user-group] PDFs open as PDF in library data bases, not always in iPad. Also, can no longer download PDFs directly to iPad.

Using library data bases, I can almost always find journal articles and down them as PDF. When I use iTunes to transfer them to my iPad, occasionally they open as images, but not PDF, so I can not read them and annotate them using GoodReader. This is a tremendous loss, as I can't then read my annotations and notes when I write about the articles.
An error message I received, was to open Adobe and change the preferences so files will be downloaded as PDF. I don't know how to do this. Do we even have access to Adobe on the iPad? Is Adobe connected to Java script, which I think we don't have access to on the iPad. I tried to fool the iPad by moving a PDF from my computer to the iPad, but it transferred as an image. GoodRead acknowledged that this sometimes happens, but I really don't want to go back to printing PDFs and hand annotating them. Any solutions?
Also, before we switched to outlook.liu.edu, I was able to directly download articles to the iPad from library data bases, by putting a g in front of the http on the URL and pressing go. This doesn't work anymore since that time, around Dec. 13. The FMRC unlocked my iPad and changed the URL, so I can get my email on the iPad, but I still can't directly download files to the iPad with the 'g' command.
I was advised to check with IT and the person in charge of library data bases. I contacted IT and am waiting for their response before going to the library.
When I can download PDFs to the iPad and annotate them with GoodReader, it is a wonderful, fast and efficient tool, as I can find, download, read and annotate PDFs anywhere, without paper, pen and highlighter, and then write about them on my computer as I read my annotations on the iPad. So far, I was able to find and download PDFs to my computer for every article I was looking for in the library data bases.

Thought this article might be of interest to us fellow ipad users and discussers. I also wonder how you all might be using the ipad innovatively as I would like to use it more than I do!
Thanks,
Sara
