I can defiantly connect with your frustration Alicia. If a student repeats a
pattern you need to be upfront with them and I know this breaks everything
about the whole organic feel to a session but sometimes you need bring it up
and just stone wall them. I've put my foot down several times with students
who were "repeats". Be reassured though that we have fail safes for repeats
in the structure of our wc and it is okay to talk to them bluntly when you
feel as if they aren't helping themselves. We drop students all the time. We
lack the man power and time for people to pussyfoot around and it is not
fair to other students who need a session. Usually, if you speak to a
student and tell them "oh well you need to bring in your assignments" or
"yah I need to see your writing" they snap to it with a gentle push. Others
need a firmer hand and if they get agitated let them be and see if they come
back. You and all of us working in the center are trying our best for their
best and if they can't see that then it is both of our losses but we move on
and work towards a better session with another student.
